Weed you be mine? By Patrick (Issue 18)

Ah, Valentine’s Day. A day to express your love to someone, or a day that we single people get excited about when all that candy goes on sale for 50% off the next day. To some, it may be another day, but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t a fun and endearing one that brings out the best in most of us at the beginning of the year. -Patrick

This blog is going to be going out to all of those who are looking for something that will add a little spark to Valentine’s day. Even better, the item that will be talked about is a strain of cannabis in flower form from a company called Momma Chan farms. So, if your partner, date or person you’re crushing on is into cannabis, maybe skip the roses and go for some 21+ flower instead! Without further ado, let’s jump in and talk about the strain Hallie Berry from Momma Chan’s farms.

Momma Chan’s History

Momma Chan’s flower started back in 2013 in Tacoma, Washington. The Founder of the farm is Grace Chan. A woman who immigrated to the US to escape famine in her native country. When she founded her company, her overall basis and goal was to provide high-quality, affordable and consistent products to all cannabis users, new or seasoned.

Their farm has LED lighting, a monitoring system to make sure the plants are in good health and they are DOH compliant. They keep an annual 26 plant harvest with a two-week turnaround! It’s hard to get that kind of premium cannabis in that amount of time, which only shows the consistency and hard work of Momma Chan’s. Next time you’re at one of our shops, ask us about something from Momma Chan’s and see the quality for yourself. You won’t be disappointed.

Strain Spotlight: Hallie Berry

No, I’m not talking about the award-winning actress, Halle Berry. Although she is talented and pretty cool. I’m talking about the Sativa hybrid strain that is so dark and purple you wouldn’t believe me when I tell you it’s a Sativa. It also has some lower THC numbers. BUT, THC numbers don’t tell the whole story of the strain.

One of the things that’s really important to strains are terpenes. This strain has two very specific ones that make this a highly sought after strain, but we will get into that later on. For now, here is the breakdown of Hallie Berry.

The Lineage: Hallie Berry is a cross of Ice Cream Cake x Blockberry. Ice cream cake, being a heavier Indica hybrid, helps bring out the calming, relaxing side of the strain, as well as a sweet taste with a little hint of vanilla and pepper. Blockberry is a unique even-50/50 hybrid. Made with crosses of Black Cherry Punch x Tropicana Cookies, this is very much a situational hybrid.

Bud Structure

The bud structure is.. different. I don’t want to compare it to a Blue Dream in the way that the buds are airy and have some give to them, but at the same time, it’s a nice comparison! The buds are a little smaller, are dense and airy, but if you press down on them, they aren’t going to crumble and turn to dust. It may feel a little dry, but it has rough edges. It’s not a smooth bud at all, but don’t let it fool you in quality.

There are endless trichomes presenting outside, and even more inside each little bud. They are deep and formed to the point you can see the little circle at the end of the trichomes. The quality in the curing of their bud is almost other worldly for how consistently trichomed out it is.

Smell

The smell is something straight out of a citrus fruit field. It smells like lemon zest, sweetness, a little bit of skunk, with a vanilla undertone on the backend. It’s a very floral and uplifting scent that stays around for a minute and isn’t something that would immediately turn off a newer user to cannabis.

Taste & Effects

The taste is just as pleasing! There was a little bit more of an earthy tone which was surprising, but a welcome surprise for a sativa. While the earthy taste stood out, it wasn’t the entire prominent taste I had. There was also a vanilla and berry taste to it as well.

The combination made me feel uplifted, and slightly energetic, while my body felt comfortable and chilled with little to no body pains. It was a little bit of a creeper by the end. I definitely felt it about 10 minutes in, but by the 15-20 minute mark, my eyes were droopy, but behind them felt cerebral and focused. I felt like I could talk to someone, do active things, or even just focus on a task at hand without feeling too overstimulated.

The Terpenes

Now, remember when I said that there was another thing that is important to strains besides THC numbers? Terpenes are the compounds that make up the smells and tastes of not only cannabis, but foods and other things around us in the world.

The main terpenes in Hallie Berry are:

  • B-Caryophyllene: Attaches to CB2 receptors; provides benefits without psychoactive effects.
  • Limonene: Zesty citrus profile; known for uplifting and active effects.
  • Linalool: Associated with relaxation, sleep, and pain relief.
  • Myrcene: Earthy and musky; provides heavy and sedating qualities.

Lastly, I may have had an ulterior motive for picking this for Valentine’s Day. The strains that make this up have also shown that they help some people with arousal. So.. ya know.. Valentine’s Day and such. I figured I’d pick something to help others out! You’re welcome, and good luck! :]
