What’s up everybody!
I hope you’re all doing well.
As the summer season comes to an end and the cloudy, rainy weather rolls back in, I wanted to give one last little nod to those summer days with a nice classic sativa that puts you into a happy, euphoric, and carefree mood. And what better strain for that than the Hawaii originated strain, Maui Wowie. I recently got to have this flower from the grower Suspended. I have to say, they have done this strain justice and continue on that traditional style of Maui Wowie.
History of the strain:
Maui Wowie has been a staple for cannabis users since the 1960’s when it first started being cultivated and shared all over the globe. The origins of this strain are a bit hazy (pun intended). As far as cultivators know, it is crossed with Hawaiian, and another unknown strain. One of the most unique aspects to this plant is that it’s grown in volcanic soil. Volcanic soil has many aspects that can be helpful and harmful to plants. The helpful portion is that it can give you higher harvests, extended production cycles and stronger plant health. It also can help the plants roots to grow freely and in any which direction. The negatives though is that it can mess up the Ph balance of the soil, and it can produce phosphorus which will limit the growth. So whoever grew this strain, took care of it and shared it, thank you and great job.
Suspended: Suspended is a grower that is located in Belfair, Washington and has been around for quite a while. They have multiple product types, so even if you don’t smoke flower, there is a little bit of everything for everyone. Suspended has cartridges and disposable cartridges by The Cream, disposable cartridges by Bare, and concentrates by Bare as well. They have also just become D.O.H. certified! Congratulations to them and their crew, I’m happy for you all and can’t wait to see what’s next.
Maui Wowie: With gorgeous, tight, leafy buds, it’s hard not to feel happy and nostalgic when you pick up a jar of this. When I tell people I have Maui Wowie for them, their faces perk right up and it’s like a small bit of seretonin hits their brain and everything goes from just okay, to great, almost in an instant. The name alone carries notoriety and for good reason.
Texture: The texture of the bud is leafy, tight and somewhat sticky. When you go to take a piece off to pop into a grinder or even into a pipe or bong, you’ll hear a nice snap as the flower breaks off from the stem of the bud.
Smell: The smell is one of the most unique and defining things about this strain. It has a strong pineapple and citrus smell with a hint of woodiness on the tail end. Hands down it is one of the best smelling strains out there and if you haven’t had the chance to check it out, I can’t recommend it enough.
The taste: The taste was full of citrus, and pine. The citrus taste really came through during the inhale, but the pine was heavy on the exhale. It caught me a little off guard, but at the same time, I realized it actually added to the high a bit.
The high: The high was nice and stony. It gave me that bit of energy, euphoria and creativity while still keeping me relaxed and focused on the task at hand. The citrus taste helped perk me up while the pine relaxed me and kept me grounded. During the time I was smoking my bowl, I wound up watching a show and couldn’t stop laughing, I made some food and it tasted delicious, and I felt genuinely happy. If that’s not something we could all use these days, than I don’t know what is.
Overall: Maui Wowie by Suspended is a fantastic sativa strain for not only the summer, but for any time all year long. If you’re looking for clean, pesticide free, reasonably priced, and quality flower, look no further than Suspended. With quantities ranging from a gram all the way up to an ounce, come by our shop and grab some yourself to try it out! Then get in the island frame of mind all from the comfort of your own home.
As always, it’s a crazy world out there. Take care, be kind to yourself, do the same for others, make someone laugh, enjoy yourself, pack a bowl and watch time fly.
Until next time,
– Patrick
