What’s up everyone!! We are back!! I hope you’re all doing okay, checking in with yourself and keeping sane in these crazy times.
You want to know what’s been helping me stay sane? GG#4 from Trailblazin’. Now a lot of you may be thinking, “Well yeah. It’s GG#4. What did you expect?”. And that’s a fair question! GG#4 is known to be one of the most calming strains out there, so why am I so surprised that this one has been keeping me sane? It’s because of the quality, care, terpenes and consistency that Trailblazin’ puts into their product. So today, we’re going to go on a deep dive into the history of this product and break down why this is not only a popular strain, but why it is so highly sought after in all of its many strain styles.
Strain History:
GG#4 has been around for just over 15 years. In 2009 a grower named Josey Whales decided to start smoking again after not smoking for a couple decades because of his job. He met up with a couple other growers that he made friends with in an online forum. The growers gave him the plants which were a cut of Sour Dubb, and what they believed was a clone of the classic Chem D. It wound up actually being mislabelled and grew into Chem’s Sister.
As the plants grew, a hilariously misfortunate event transpired in the pursuit for a potent strain. Whales was running cuts of Chocolate diesel, Sour Dubb, and Chem’s Diesel as well some hybrid plants of Chem’s Sister x Sour Dubb. But at some point, an unexpected visit from the authorities that was unrelated to the cannabis grow, caused Whales to have to move over 80 plants to a friend’s house by the end of that day. After he waited for about a week, he decided to move the plants one more time. But because of all of the moving, the Chem’s Sister x Sour Dubb plants started to display intersex traits and produced male plants which wound up pollinating the whole grow room!
About a year later, Whales and another grower named Mardogg set up a grow together. They wound up starting off their grow operation with Chocolate Diesel seeds. They paid extra attention to seeing if any of the plants displayed intersex traits due to the nature of the seeds. From the handful of seeds they started with they wound up with four female plants. One of them was a runt plant that was extremely similar to their Sour Dubb which was rejected. The other three plants wound up being GG#1 (aka Sister Glue), GG#2 and the ever so famous GG#4 (aka Original Glue. The Gorilla Glue adhesive company took legal action due to the use of their name being used). There was another GG strain grown which combined GG#1 and GG#4 as a cross that produced GG#5 or New Glue.
As the years went by, select growers got the seeds and cuts from the original plants. The reputation that GG#4 garnered, helped earn the strain first place in the High Times Cup in both Michigan and Los Angeles in 2014, and the High Times Jamaican World Cup in 2015.
GG#4 has stayed a hot commodity in the cannabis community. Not only with recreational users, but medical users as well. Some variations of GG#4 are dominant in sativa effects, some are more balanced, while some have been bred to give you that heavy, relaxed, indica dominant style. GG#4 is a truly diverse strain with a multitude of different traits good for helping with pain, anxiety and other ailments.
Now that we’ve gone over the history of the strain, let’s talk about Trailblazin’ and how they are carrying on the tradition of growing a potent GG#4 that holds up to the good ol’ days.
The Farm:
Trailblazin’ is an award-winning, DOH-certified, pesticide-free farm in Bellingham, Washington. They were founded in 2014 and have remained a mainstay in Washington ever since. Their flower is hand trimmed and clean green. So if you’re looking for a farm that is focused on not only giving you a good high, but is also going to make you feel good overall, give Trailblazin’ a shot. They have multiple strains in flower, joints, capsules, and they are now making topicals under a brand named Cür. Check ’em out! Now, it’s time to talk about their version of GG#4.
The Packaging:
Trailblazin’ does a great job with the way they package their products. When it comes to the packaging for their flower, they give you a wide open window on the back portion of the jar, with a clear bottom, so you’re able to get a nice visual of the quality of the product. The product label that gives you the THC, CBD and other cannabinoid levels, also gives you the top three terpenes from the strain!! The top terpene in this strain is caryophyllene, which is known to be a soothing, pain relieving terpene which can even act as an anti-inflammatory for the gastrointestinal lining as well as for the nerves for those who suffer from arthritis.
The Texture:
The texture of the bud is a little bumpy which can make it a bit easier to break off into chunks if you’re someone who grinds up their product. It’s also very sticky, as the name would suggest and more than likely will stick to your fingers for a second if you press down on it. There is a decent amount of give in the structure of the bud. So when you’re either breaking apart the bud for grinding up, or you’re even just squishing it to feel the density, you’ll get to see how well maintained this strain was in the care of Trailblazin’.
The Smell:
The smell was pungent! The scent of savory profiles along with an onset coffee ground aroma made for a uniquely relaxing effect that most strains only wish they could captivate. There is also a hint of sour to it as well. It’s not so noticeable that it will make you turn your nose away from wanting to try it though. But if you are someone who can point out sour traits on things, don’t be surprised if this strain catches you off guard just a little bit.
The Taste:
The taste was heavy. It was earthy, savory, somewhat sweet and hit on that coffee note at the very back end. It gave a solid flavor for the entirety of the bowl which I personally was surprised about a little bit since sometimes it seems that more earthy strains just seem to taste a bit harsher at the end. This one though was good until the last long, milky looking rip.
The High:
The high was absolutely incredible! I’m a bit of a stickler for GG#4, and this one snuck up on me! From the very first rip, you’ll feel the early onset euphoria hit, which then leads into a bit more of relaxation through the rest of the body as the bowl progresses. If you’re someone who likes to finish a bowl in one hit, find a comfy place because you’ll probably be there for a while. If you like to nurse your bowl, enjoy it and see where your high takes you. Doing that may make you feel more uplifted for a bit longer than others, but you’re still going to get just as good of a relaxation period as well, but it may just be a bit less couch locked or “glued” as some may say. Regardless, you’re still going to be experiencing the effects of GG#4 no matter how you finish your bowl, just know that it may come in a little bit of a different feel for each person.
Overall:
From an accidental discovery, to multiple awards, to a mainstay in the cannabis community for coming up on two decades. GG#4 has remained one of the most notorious, highly sought after and consistent strains of all time. Trailblazin’ has taken on a legendary strain and decided to put it out to Washington State in a clean green way. And they’ve done an incredible job. From the hand trimming of the buds, to every piece of info they give you on the jar, Trailblazin’ won’t lead you in the wrong direction with any of their products.
Thank you for taking the time to read this! I hope you enjoyed it. So until next time, take care of yourself, take care of others, call a friend, and listen to Xibalba.
See Ya,
Patrick
